Saturday 7th July
Be immersed in a world of riddles, runes and revenge with Viking expert Janina Ramirez to celebrate her new children’s book Riddle of the Runes. Janina will introduce fearless shield maidens, reveal fascinating facts about the Vikings, and and will need your help to solve a mysterious crime in the fjords of Kilsgard.
Soak in the atmosphere of the Danelaw reconstructed Viking village as Janina reads her new book from the centre of the village meeting place, amongst the throng of Viking houses. Janina will also explain about shield maidens and answer questions on the subject.
Following the reading, continue to step back in time as you enter the reconstructed Viking Longhouse where Janina shall be situated for the book signing. If you want to buy a copy of the new book it will be on sale on the day.
To celebrate the visit of Janina and the launch of her new book we will be running family activities from our multiple award-winning schools education programme. Meet the Vikings and see if you are brave enough to train to be a Viking warrior using a spear and shield. Get creative as you learn to be a Viking crafts-person and make a clay lamp to take home with you.
This is recommended for 7+ but all are welcome.
All of this is included in your standard museum admission!
