June

Full Steam Ahead, 10am – 5pm
Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st

A weekend dedicated to machinery, including an impressive display of engines. See the full size 14 ton Clayton and Shuttleworth traction engine alongside model traction engines and a vintage tractor display. Meet the York Inset Scooter Club with their historic collection of Lambretta’s and Vespers. Take a train ride or join in with the interactive demonstrations.

July

Our Textile Heritage, 10am – 5pm
Sunday 5th

Come and join York and District Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers in a day celebrating our textile heritage. With sheep shearing timetabled throughout the day and hands-on demonstrations of weaving, spinning, dyeing, feltmaking and other related crafts. Enjoy an exhibition of hand made textiles and a sale of equipment, fibres and books.

Dairy Day, 10am – 5pm
Sunday 19th

Join us for all things dairy! Try your hand at butter making and watch a cheese making demonstration. Understand what happens in a cow’s stomach and have a go at milking Charleen the wooden cow! Enjoy a tasting session of sheep and goats cheeses and yoghurts.

August

Teddy Bears Picnic, 10.30am – 12pm
Tuesday 4th, Wednesday 5th, Thursday 6th

Bring along your favourite Teddy for a teddy bears’ tea party out on the lawn. Enjoy teddy bear games and craft making sessions. Go on a bear hunt and listen to a story in the three bear’s cottage. This popular event is now spread over three days, booking is advisable.

Falconry Day, 10am – 5pm
Sunday 16th

See a Falconry display and watch the white headed vulture and the white tailed sea eagle in full flight. Get up close for a handling session of kestrels, eagle owls and barn owls. Activities include decorating your own bird box and making bird food.

Scarecrow Sculptures, 11am – 3pm
Wednesday 19th

If you missed the event earlier in the year here is another chance to join in the fun and make your own scarecrow. Bring your own accessories and make it personal!

Build a Den Day, 10am – 5pm
Sunday 30th & Monday 31st

Join us for a weekend of family fun when we will be looking at animals’ habitats. Get stuck in and make your own family den with a variety of materials. Meet the York Beekeepers Association and visit the hives on site. Explore our wildlife hotel, and enjoy the fantastic multimedia show, ‘Buzzing!’ from Anneliese Emmans Dean.

September

Harvest and Autumn Treasure Hunt, 11am – 4pm
Sunday 27th

Explore the autumn season in all its colourful beauty. See the story of Harvest come to life, from sickle to combine. Make the most of the outdoors before the winter evenings draw in. Take part in our Scavenger Hunt to find berries, leaves and seeds and learn about the cycle a plants reproduction at this amazing time of year.

October

Working like a Dog, 11am – 4pm
Sunday 11th

A day dedicated to mans best friend. Learn about the life of a Police Dog and discover the excellent work carried out by the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. Watch an amazing sheepdog demonstration and see the skill involved by both man and dog.

Apple Day, 11am – 4pm
Sunday 18th

Come and celebrate the humble apple with fun games and activities. Take part in apple picking, apple bobbing and apple printing. Sample a variety of apples, which one is your favourite? Play the longest peel competition and much more.

Halloween, 11am – 3pm
Wednesday 28th

Join us for spooky goings on in preparation for the big night. Carve lanterns from vegetables; make your own costume accessories and, most importantly, your Trick or Treat basket for all those goodies! The day ends with a ghost story around the fire in our Haunted House. Suitable for the under tens.

November

Christmas Crafts, 11am – 3pm
Sunday 15th

Get into the Christmas spirit at our last event before Santa Specials begin, with activities for the young and old. Join us today and make decorations for the home and tree.

December

Santa Specials, 10 am – 3 pm
5th & 6th, 12th & 13th, 19th – 22nd.
Separate Admission Prices Apply

Enjoy a traditional Christmas experience with a guided tour around Santa’s village including a visit to his house. Meet the Elves and visit their workshop. Take a train ride to meet Santa and receive an early Christmas present, before enjoying a mince pie and sherry in front of a roaring fire.
