Oral History Project
“Farming Families” is an Oral History Project which began in March 2007 and has been funded by Renaissance Yorkshire as part of the “Hear my Story” Community Partnership.
In 2007 - 2008 we interviewed fifty people involved in agriculture to find out about farming life today. From this we developed a short film which can be viewed in a purpose built room in our Four Seasons Gallery.
In 2008 - 2009 we interviewed farmers about seasonal work patterns and how these have altered from the days of working with horses and in view of climate change. We now have four new sound tubes and an audio point in our Four Seasons Gallery where visitors can listen to farmers describe seasonal work and the changes they have experienced over the years.
You can listen to audio extracts on aspects of farming life today and how farmers care for their animals on the pages entitled ‘Animal Care’ and ‘Farming Life’ shown on the menu on the left side-bar. This website development has been kindly funded by the Ernest Cook Trust.
