In 2007 and 2008 we asked fifty people involved in agriculture to tell us about their working lives and the changes they have witnessed since they came into the industry. We gathered recollections about many aspects of farming including the growth in mechanisation, changes in food prices, the differences between rural and urban lifestyles and whether the farming life provides satisfaction. Interestingly, the majority would opt to stay in agriculture even if they won the lottery! The extracts below offer an insight into farming lives today.
