The museum’s Livestock

Tamworth Pigs

There are a variety of animals kept on site. These may change throughout the open season but generally include pigs, a variety of goats, ponies, and a variety of sheep, poultry and ducks.

Please note the museum is not a petting farm but most of our livestock are very friendly and visitors often interact with them. Please consult your visitor information sheet (given to you on arrival) to find our where hand washing facilities are located around the site.

The museum is also home to Jeffery De Goat (‘Jeffers’), official mascot and Flying Officer with 609 Squadron RAF Leeming. Jeffery was also recently appointed Honorary 1st Lieutenant of the American Airforce.

In 2010 Jeffery was appointed Mascot with 609 Squadron after an officer noted the similarity between Jeffers and William de Goat, the squadron’s mascot during World War Two. He began as Officer Cadet, was promoted to Pilot Officer and was promoted again to Flying Officer in 2011. Jeffery was also awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in February 2012.

As Flying Officer, Jeffery is expected to attend ceremonial parades and events. As a Christmas treat for 2011, 609 Squadron made a donation of £500 towards Jeffery’s mess bill for 2012.
