Events this month include Scarecrow Making, Rural Games and Build a Den Day. See events pages for further details.

Collection and Exhibition News Pig Exhibition 005

There is a new temporary exhibition in our recently developed foyer exhibition area. ‘What’s the PIG Idea?’ looks briefly at the commercialisation of pigs in our popular culture and serves as a fun complement to the permanent pig display in our Livestock Gallery. The exhibition has free recipes available to take away; they feature old-worldly pig-related recipes taken from ‘Farmhouse Fare’, a 1940s book in the museum’s library collection. Anyone for pig’s head pudding?!

A new web exhibition is also under development and will appear on the website shortly. It will display key items from our photographic, archive and artefact collections and will be on the theme of Yorkshire agricultural shows. Be sure to pop back soon and take a look.

Museum Dovecote

The museum dovecote is now open to the public. Visitors are free to enter the building and take a look at a small display showing the dovecote in its former position at Wilstrop Hall, Kirk Hammerton near York. Please note that entry is by steps only. This is an ongoing development and further news will appear here in due course.

Museum Café and Shop

ShopThe cafe here at the museum is under new management and has had a re-vamp. There is a brand new menu sporting some of the best-value Yorkshire farmhouse fare. Special offers are set to change regularly. The shop has also recently been fully re-stocked with fresh and exciting gifts and goodies. Why not pick up some Yorkshire farmhouse jams and chutneys?
