Roman Fort

Brigantium is a large outdoor classroom cunningly disguised as a Roman Auxiliary Fort of the 1st Century AD. Designed to take up to 65 children a day as trainee soldiers in the Roman army.

Equipped with their uniform, helmet, spear and shield, the young recruits are put through their paces by our centurion. Ditch digging, weapons practice (with blunt, dummy weapons), guard duty, craft work and parade ground drill are just some of the tasks they may have to complete to earn their Diploma.

The garrison may also need to visit the local Celtic settlement, giving a chance to compare and contrast the life of the Romans to the Celtic peoples living in this land before the Roman Invasion.

Educational Visits can be booked for a full day (5 hours) or a half day (2.5 hours).

A full day on the Roman Fort costs £12 per child (lunch included)
A half day per child per costs £8.00
A minimum of 4 adults is required for both full and half days.

For school parties of 40 pupils or more it becomes 1 adult free for every 10 children. Maximum of 65 pupils
